The spark for La La Cat litter originated from a family-owned operation making wooden wheels and axels in southern Taiwan. The facility produced scrap pinewood as a byproduct, much of it destined to be burned, releasing large amounts of carbon dioxide. So wasteful! Jack was sure there must be a better way to put the wood to use.
In 2018, Jack hit upon the idea to turn the unused material into an eco-friendly cat litter. By incorporating reclaimed materials from lumber and tofu production, we can reduce carbon emissions and help to make a more sustainable future. And even better, our cat litter is 100% biodegradable!
Our Story
La La Cat was founded by Jack Chao, who was educated in NY for his art degree. Being a life time cat lover, he applied his artistic background to create products for his beloved friends that would be fun, comfortable, and eco-friendly.
The idea of a La La Cat podium scratcher came to Jack while watching the president giving a speech, and he thought that it will be a great idea to give his furry friends a chance to be in the spotlight. After designing the front panel, he added accessories 1 by 1, learning and gaining valuable feedback from his cats at every step. Today, we are working to create new and exciting scratchers so you and your cats can share in our joy!

Why plant-based over clay?
Clay cat litter relies on the mining of bentonite and other minerals for its production, which disrupts natural landscapes and depletes nonrenewable resources. What’s more, clay litter is not biodegradable, contributing additional waste to landfills. It’s also heavy!
Plant-based cat litter makes use of renewable resources like pine, tofu byproducts, and wheatgrass—no mining equipment required. Plant-based materials are also much lighter than clay, saving you a backache. And, these materials are fully biodegradable, so they can even be composted!
